Chapter 39

War in the State of Zin

An hour had passed in real life when Li Wei walked out of the Ten-Day Time Chamber. The room was the same as he’d left it—dry air, cold metallic floor, and a gloomy atmosphere. It didn’t affect him, though, and he sat with his legs crossed and eyes closed.

Hours passed as he pondered, oblivious to the changes happening outside. Not even the grumbling of his empty stomach bothered him, nor did he notice the sunlight that peeked through the edges of the door turning dark. He remained like a statue rooted to the floor. If he’d had to describe the state he was in, he would have called it a mirage. He was still in a world of rocks and hills, watching the snake using the Concept of Earth Travel. Somewhere in his own world, he had become a snake and traveled through the ground as easily as a bird would fly in the sky. The world was filled with a new concept at every step. The way the wind moved or the water rippled or the ground shook—everything had a concept waiting to be revealed. Just a realization away, if he could grasp it, he would understand the true meaning of things.

A knock on the door pulled him out of his harmonious feeling of the concept.

“Who is it?” he shouted, unable to control his irritation. “Damn it. Why am I so hungry?” He rubbed his stomach over the jade-green robe to pacify its growling. It had been days since he’d last eaten. Although only a few hours had passed outside, he’d spent ten days in the time chamber, eating nothing.

With a long face and a curse in his mouth, he walked to the door of his dwelling and opened it.

“Brother Wei, how are you?” Wan Gung stood outside in a dark-gray robe, accompanied by Zong Yuan and Tun Hu. They smelled like ale, and he didn’t have to wonder where they’d spent their time before coming here.

Wei could see the reverence in Wan Gung’s eyes, but that feeling was absent in Zong Yuan and Tun Hu. She had a complex expression plastered on her face. Wei didn’t like the way she looked at him like a fat sheep in danger of getting slaughtered.

“Brother Yuan, I’ve talked with the Brah ancestor, and you can enter the Body Rebirth Pool.”

Wei stared at the youth in the blue robe. That guy had been stuck at no cultivation for so long, and if he could regain his cultivation, that would be useful.

“Thank you.” Zong Yuan bowed slightly.

“You two—what are you doing here?” Wei glanced at the duo from the Herb Pagoda Sect. He wasn’t sure what he should do with them. At the moment, he didn’t have time to entertain them.

“Brother Li, you said you don’t have a girlfriend, right?” Tun Hu sent a coquettish look at him, swaying at her flat waist.

Wei gulped. “Why do you ask?”

“I can be your girlfriend going forward. This is decided. I’ll stay with you, and you can do whatever you want to do with me.
